This year's category awards.
Each award goes to the highest-scoring brand or retailer in its category as at June 2026. Scores are calculated using our published 100-point methodology.
The Paw Grocer
Highest overall score in the dog food index — outstanding value, transparent provenance, and genuinely high meat inclusion across its range.
ZIWI Peak
Top-scoring premium brand in the dog food index. Air-dried recipes with very high named-meat content and the best transparency score in category.
Black Hawk
The strongest balance of real feeding cost and ingredient quality in the index. Widely available, honestly priced, and consistent across its core dry range.
Natural Animal Solutions
Second-highest overall score in the index. Supplement and wellness range with exceptional transparency and a strong evidence-based positioning.
Prime100
Manufactured in Australia with single-protein, limited-ingredient recipes and clear labelling — the standout pick for owners who prioritise local provenance.
Pet Circle
Consistently competitive on everyday price per kg, strong range depth, and reliable subscription pricing. Our retailer comparison scores Pet Circle highest on overall value.
Natural Animal Solutions
Top-scoring brand in the supplement category. Transparent formulations, clearly stated ingredient sourcing, and strong real-world outcomes reported across the index.
The Paw Grocer
Highest transparency score in the treats category. Short ingredient lists, single proteins, and honest provenance labelling — the gold standard for treat transparency.
How winners are chosen.
Dog Food Reviews Awards are a direct output of the same 100-point scoring model used across all of our rankings. There is no separate judging panel or submission process — the scores drive the winners.
Scored against the same model
Every brand runs through our six-pillar methodology: value (price per kg + cost per day), ingredient quality, nutritional completeness, transparency, availability and owner sentiment. The same checks apply to every brand, every year.
Category leader takes the award
The brand with the highest overall score in each defined category wins that award. Where categories overlap (e.g. Best Australian Made vs. Best Dog Food), the same brand can win multiple awards.
Annual review cycle
Awards are reviewed each June and updated mid-year if scores change materially — for example, after a recipe change, a recall, or a significant shift in retail pricing.
No commercial influence
Brands cannot submit products for consideration, pay to be reviewed faster, or influence their placement. Our affiliate relationships, where they exist, are fully disclosed and never connected to scoring.
Eligibility & editorial rules.
Scored in the index
Only brands already scored in the Dog Food Reviews index are eligible. We do not accept award nominations or submissions from brands that have not been reviewed.
No active major recalls
Brands with an active product recall in Australia at the time of the award cycle are ineligible for that award year, regardless of their score.
Publicly available information
All scoring is based on publicly available product information — ingredient panels, retail pricing, ownership disclosures and published nutritional analysis.
Awards cannot be purchased
There is no fee, sponsorship, or commercial arrangement that influences award outcomes. This is a firm editorial rule with no exceptions.
Corrections policy
If we score a brand incorrectly — for example, because a recipe changed and we missed the update — we will correct the score and update the award. See our editorial policy for the full corrections process.
Affiliate relationships disclosed
Some links to winning brands and retailers may earn Dog Food Reviews a commission. These relationships are fully disclosed in our affiliate disclosure and never connected to a brand's score or award status.
Awards, answered.
No. Dog Food Reviews Awards are based entirely on editorial scoring using our published 100-point methodology. Awards cannot be purchased, and brands cannot apply or pay to be considered. Winners are determined solely by their score and ranking in our index.
Awards are reviewed annually and updated whenever a brand's score changes materially — for example, if a recipe changes, a recall occurs, pricing shifts significantly, or a brand's transparency improves. The current awards reflect scores as at June 2026.
Our 100-point model covers six weighted pillars: value (price per kg and cost per day), ingredient quality, nutritional completeness, transparency (ownership, manufacturing, recall history), retail availability, and owner sentiment. See the full methodology for the exact weights.
The Best Dog Food award goes to the highest overall scorer across all six pillars. Best Value specifically rewards the strongest balance of cost and quality — a brand can lead on ingredients and transparency while a different brand leads on pure feeding cost.
We do not currently issue official award badges or licences. Brands are free to reference the award editorially (e.g. 'ranked Best Dog Food by Dog Food Reviews 2026') but cannot imply a commercial partnership or endorsement with Dog Food Reviews.
